How can I ensure that my figure files are suitable for upload to EES and submission?
Response
  • At the Attach Files submission step in EES you must upload your figure files as separate files alongside your main manuscript file.

  • Ensure that your figures are in the correct file format for submission.  Click here for further information on acceptable file formats for upload.

  • Note: Please refer to the Guide for Author for the journal to which you are submitting.  Some journals may have specific figure requirements.  Each Elsevier journal has its own Guide for Authors and requirements for submission. Download the Guide for Authors for any journal from this page.

  • See also information on figure creation software.

  • It is recommended that each individual figure file does not exceed 4 Mb and that the combined size of all the files for submission does not exceed 10MB.  Upload of large files may result in problems such as time out during upload or PDF build failure.

  • If the size of your figure files is quite large due to high resolution settings, you can convert to a different file format or reduce the figure resolution.  For initial submission the files supplied are used for review purposes only.  Upon acceptance of your paper for publication you can supply high resolution figure files to be used for production and publication purposes.

  • Figure captions should be supplied with your files.

  • If you figures are missing in the PDF file created by the system.  Click here for more information.

  • The layout and placement of figures in the PDF is not overly important at initial submission.  As if the paper is accepted for publication in the journal it will be type set in the exact style of the journal for publication.
